Dr. Salil Khandwala,
Medical Director,
Advanced Urogynecology of Michigan P.C.
Dr. Khandwala was the first surgeon in the world to perform the single incision minimally invasive surgery for stress urinary incontinence. He has pioneered a special technique for performing incontinence surgery called the Dynamic Intraoperative Standing Sling technique (DISST) technique that essentially guarantees cure from incontinence. He also has pioneered a technique that preserves the uterus and avoids a hysterectomy for pelvic organ prolapse called NINOS: No Incision Natural Orifice Surgery.
Dr. Khandwala completed his medical school at the University of Bombay. He then did a 2-year fellowship in Operative Laparoscopy at the University of Clermont Ferrand, France at the world famous Centre International de Chirurgie Endoscopique. He did his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and then a fellowship in Urogynecology, Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center and the University of Maryland and was an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland prior to moving to Michigan. Dr. Khandwala was amongst the first surgeon group in the country to get board certified in the subspecialty of Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery (URPS).
Dr. Khandwala is an avid practitioner of yoga and is a certified yoga teacher and teaches yoga for different medical conditions. On the weekends, he teaches Ashtanga yoga at a local health club. Dr. Khandwala has published on yoga for female pelvic pain and continues to explore the role of yoga to improve the pelvic floor conditions.
Dr. Khandwala is married to a pediatric anesthesiologist and has two children, one of whom is an Ophthalmologist and the other a software engineer.
Dr. Jaclyn Baratono
Dr. Jaclyn Baratono joined our practice, Advanced Urogynecology of Michigan (AUGM), in July 2024 after completing her Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (URPS) fellowship at Beaumont Trenton. She graduated from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2017 and completed her OB/GYN residency at Beaumont Hospital, Trenton (now Corewell), serving as Chief Resident in her final year. Dr. Baratono has published a paper on the long term results of the in-office sling procedure for the management of stress incontinence. Her fellowship thesis was on uterine-sparing procedure for the management of uterovaginal prolapse.
In her spare time, Dr. Baratono enjoys going on long hikes with her husband and two cute little boys.
