FACTS ABOUT BLADDER PAIN SYNDROME
(previously called INTERSTITIAL CYSTITIS or IC)
DID YOU KNOW:
- Most patients with BPS have severe urgency, frequency and bladder pain and have more often than not been diagnosed as UTI or bladder infection.
- They probably have never had a bladder infection and treatment with antibiotics only sets them up for resistance and bowel damage.
- After a proper work up, most patients notice significant improvement WITHOUT ANY ANTIBIOTICS.
In our practice, we have a large number of women with this condition and they are well controlled with medications. They do not require surgery for this problem.
The biggest problem with this condition is not the condition itself but the fact that it is misdiagnosed and mismanaged as a bladder infection or UTI with no improvement. This unfortunately goes on for several years before the patient comes to see us and this condition is diagnosed.
